Hello, everyone! It seems like even though the end of the semester is coming closer and closer, summer should be a time of relaxing and peaceful. However, Rotaract is moving full steam ahead into it's planning stages of it's upcoming service projects and initiatives for the 2016-2017 Rotary year. Coming from our first planning and transition meeting, we are preparing to begin some great programs for SPC students on the Tarpon Springs Campus, as well as Interact Students considering St. Petersburg College, Tarpon Springs as an option to get their collegiate career started.
Bridge to Rotary is designed for current students at SPC who are in their final academic year or semester, and must be an active, paid member of the Rotaract of Tarpon Springs to participate in this program. A potential participant who expresses high interest and commitment will be matched with a Rotarian to act as their sponsor, and they must go to one of our sponsoring Rotary Clubs' (Rotary Club of Tarpon Spring or East Lake) meeting per month for a year, as well as completing Rotary service work. Upon completion of these required, the hope is that the sponsor sees the growth and human potential in the Rotaractor to recommend for full Rotarian status upon the student's graduation!
Bridge to Rotaract is designed for current Interact students in Pinellas County high schools who are considering SPC as an option to start their college career. Current Rotaractors will be out an about at SPC Tarpon's Hydration Stations to assist with where to go, who to call, and help acclimate to life on campus and in the Rotaract Club. This will give current Interact students a place to feel like their ideas and vision matter, and will build a future for the Rotaract after this year.
Please remember that we are still in the process of planning these programs, as well as other events and campus ideas, out to make sure they go smoothly and with as much support. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor for a potential Bridge to Rotary applicant, or are interested in learning more about these programs, stay tuned!
