Dillon T. Gonzalez; President
Hello! my name is Dillon, and I will be serving as the first Rotaract secretary for the Tarpon Springs Campus at SPC. I have been a student at SPC since 2012, due in part to a major change in my academic plans, which is to pursue an Information Security degree. I am from Rochester, NY, and moved to Florida when I was 11 years old. As an SPC student, I have been the founding member of a gaming club, as well as serving an active role on the Student Government Association, rewriting much of the governing policy and working with students who needed assistance.
Growing up as a person with disabilities, it was very difficult for me to fit in and see myself in a positive way around my peers. I often found myself the victim of bullying and teasing, like many kids who are considered "different".. That's when my Rotary moment began. In my hometown, the Rotary Club of Rochester funds a week-long summer camp program called the Sunshine Camp, a program designed specifically for children with physical and mental disabilities. From 2002 to 2015, I would spend a week in the program, where I wasn't subjected to teasing or bullying, and where my disabilities didn't leave me an outcast, but an equal. Much of why I serve in the Rotaract Club and much of what made me the leader I am today can be contributed to this program. If you'd like to learn more about the Rochester Rotary Sunshine Campus and it's programs, please visit http://www.sunshinecampus.org or find me around campus and talk to me. Hope to see you in our meetings!
